Three Blind Mice

Last Friday 4th grade had Character Day. Students were required to bring in a book they would recommend to their classmates and give an oral book report and persuade others to read the book of their choice. Students were also given the option of dressing up as a character from that book. I had a whole slew of wizards from Harry Potter, Huckleberry Fin, and Laura Ingalls Wilder - just to name a few.

Last year the four 4th grade teachers were characters from Alice and Wonderland. This year we were the Three Blind Mice (we missed you Mrs. Ollis). Our costumes were based from the book by John Ivimey. Denise & Matt brought the mouse ear hats, I created the tails, we painted our noses and cheeks with whiskers, and we each had a scarf and walking stick to complete the look. We even decided to wear Sunglasses to convince the kids that we couldn't see.

I think the 3 teachers had more fun dressing up than most of the kids did! We put on quite the show in the hall before the bell rang. We ran into walls, ran into each other, bumped into students, and went into the wrong doors to start class. The kids thought we were pretty funny. I had most of my kids convinced that my glasses were so dark I couldn't see in the school when I had them on. By lunch I had run into so many people, doors, and walls that a few of my girls took my by the arm and lead me to the Cafeteria.

It was fun to let loose and enjoy ourselves during work. I usually feel like I have to be completely composed and confident in front of my students. Even though I could see just fine, it was nice to be silly.
