Loosen and Tighten the Belts

Last week I had another cake order to fulfill. A women who is a regular substitute at my school asked me to make a cake for her church's leadership training week. She told me I could do anything I wanted as long as it fit into the cowboy/western category. Since I didn't have many boundaries I was able to just work on a cake for pure enjoyment again. I even got to play with my food markers when I drew designs on the cowboy boots and bandanna. Loosen your belts Summit Church leadership...thats a big cake!
This week Mark spent 2 days tearing up my engine to replace its timing belt. He had to take out a ton of "stuff". I could identify my engine cover and the old timing belt...yeah that's about all I could identify. I am sure my brothers-in-law who do happen to stumble on this post will be able to name each part in this picture, but I definetly couldn't! Mark then had to install the timing belt onto the engine. He did all of the hard work, including getting the very tight timing belt to fit on the pulleys. I did get to help by pushing a ratchet until the white paint line on the belt lined up with the
knotch on the engine, while he pushed the belt into place. Mark worked SO hard for hours and hours and hours. It was so hot in the garage we rented, so he lost 10 pounds in 48 hours just working on the car (a good chunk of which was from sweating). CRAZY!!

Finally both Mark and I each have our own working car that doesn't need any immediate work done. We are both happy with our cars and feel very blessed to each have our own mode of transportation!

Mark, I am absolutely speechless. I can't believe you changed your own timing belt. That is amazing. I watched Scott once change the alternator(after two or three days under the hood of our Datsun), but I would think the timing belt is even more difficult to switch out. Way to go. And I bet you saved tons of muu-lah!!
