Cake Decorating Class 1

This month I have been taking Wilton Course 1 Cake Decorating class. It has been fun and I have learned a lot! I have made 3 cakes and 4 cupcake designs for class. Mark's Grandma requested pictures so this is an easy way to show off my creations. Plus I get to brag just a little, which is always fun.

The first cake was really easy to decorate because I have done the star method many times before, and this wasn't that different. The new things I did was making my own frosting from scratch (including coloring), a smooth frosting finish (I usually avoid this because I didn't know the trick to keep crumbs out), and it was my first time torting a cake (joining two layers together with pudding & icing).

Next I created a cake for Susan's birthday. It was smooth icing with dots, zig-zag, and writing.
Next I created cupcakes for a baby shower I threw last weekend. There were 4 designs I created for the event and class. Just in case you can't tell what they are here is a break down of what I made.
T.L. = Baby in a carriage with a pink Binky, T.R. = Teddy Bear, B.L. = Balloons, B.R. = Flowers
The cake I made yesterday had roses, drop flowers, a bow, and a shell boarder. The roses aren't all that beautiful (I think they look like carnations), but my instructor said it really takes a special icing to make the roses look just right.
Next week I start Course 2 where I will learn more flowers! Yay for making cakes look cute!
