Gizmo and All that Comes With Him

As mentioned before, Mark and I adopted a dog from Paulette's shelter. Gizmo is very friendly. His under bite kinda freaks people out at first, as it did us, but then they are all won over by his unique charm.

We are still trying to teach him to lay down on command and use the puppy pads to "go" on instead of the carpet when we are out of the house. He is close to learning what "heal" and "stay" mean, but is doing pretty good considering we haven't been working on it for very long. Gizmo for sure knows how to sit on command, stretch up on his hind legs for a bit, and fetch. He is also very aware of what "No" and "Off" mean. Mostly because he knows he isn't allowed on the couch and bed (so we don't have dog hair on them) but when he gets excited he forgets.

He is sleeping better than when we first brought him home. He was waking up a couple of times every night and running around the bedroom when we first brought him home. Paulette decided in this case it would be okay to drug him with some "dog safe" meds. After that didn't completely solve the problem we started having him sleep in a kennel. It is working so much better. Sometimes he whines a little but today he slept until 7 am (an hour later than normal). I am going to try to convince myself that I can go running in the mornings when I wake up with him. Maybe I will be better exercising if I had a stable schedule, which Gizmo is making possible. ;-)

His favorite toys are a little stuffed red dog and the laser pointer. He follows the laser pointer all over the house. Check out the video to see what we do with him for fun when we are feeling lazy but still want him to be active.
