Christmas 2013

We drove to Virginia for Christmas. Yes, I said drove!  We left Bentonville at 5pm Friday, hit traffic in a rain storm and only got 50 miles put behind us in the first 90 minutes.  At 7:30 we stopped for a jammie change at Walmart (where else?) and a bottle in the car.

Then back in the car seats for 11 hours.  The kids did great!  Each woke up and cried for about 15 minutes that night, but slept really well the rest of the time. When they woke up, I fed them from the back seat.  We stopped for diaper changes at about 7:30 am, but were quickly back on the road.  We got stuck behind a wide load in the mountains of Tennessee for an hour too, but eventually made it over the river and through the woods to Grandmothers house at about 2 pm Saturday.  It was a looonnngg drive even with two great babies.  Thankfully we had lots of family & fun holiday things to look forward to!

We spent a few nights with Grandma & Papa Elzey and then a couple nights, including Christmas Eve, with Grandpa & Nana Smallwood.  Rachel and Dean loved watching their cousin Johnathan dance at Grandpa's house & playing in the wrapping paper with their second cousin Isabella.

That night Santa visited Grandma & Papa's house and the twin's stockings were more stuffed than I originally thought they would be.  We were all very blessed and received many fabulous gifts to make like easier, more fun, or more beautiful.  Rachel and Dean got clothes, books, ornaments, and toys.  I think their favorite thing was playing in the wrapping paper though. ;-)

While we were in Virginia the twins got to meet Mark's oldest sibling, Aunt Dawn.  I think she liked them.  She usually won't smile when she knows someone is taking a picture, but we caught her smiling a couple times!
It was a lot of fun!  Fortunately the ride home was much quicker and had no major delays.  We left Danville at 4 pm and got home at 10:30 am the next day.  It was nice to be home, but we immediately missed all the family we'd left behind.  So far the new year has started off with no more swaddling and a couple more wake ups each night.  Mark and I are excited to see what this year has in store for us!
