Last Day for Nannying & Nesting

Today was my last day working as Max and Sophie's nanny.  We're all quite sad, but I'm a little excited too!  I've been their nanny for over a year and from what the neighbors tell me that is the longest stretch they've had for a long time.  I won't be completely done seeing them though because their parents have asked that I continue to tutor them on Thursdays until the babies come, I don't feel up to it, or school gets out (1 day after the twins "due date").  I'm excited that I will have afternoon's off to do what I want to do and take it a little more easy, but working for 1 hour a week until Dean & his sister come seems like a great compromise to keep me relaxed and motivated at the same time!

The nesting stage has hit.  I think it has hit Mark as much or even more than it has hit me though! Melissa & AJ were fantastic and came over to paint with me a few weeks ago.  My white and purple office that I spent weeks on when we moved in was completely transformed in an afternoon!  Mark tells me that "it looks better" and I have to remind him that the acceptable phrases are "it looks different" or "it looks better for a nursery".  I miss my purple stenciled wall!  After seeing the walls redone Mark started paying attention to the carpet.  Mark didn't want his little ones crawling around on the carpet we had, so next week we're getting new carpet in their room & the connected gym/craft room.  After that we'll put furniture in and I can use my free time to get things set up the way we want.

Last week we've also moved from being a cool DINK couple with an SUV to a Minivan Fam.  Yup - Our newest addition is a Nissan Quest (it's a little boxier than most minivans, so I like to think it looks tad more SUV-ish and a little bit less Soccer Mom-ish - don't burst my bubble please).  I never really thought I wanted a minivan until I realized how much easier it will be to get the twins in and out with the large auto-doors, auto-trunk, and extra room.  If we weren't having twins I don't think we would have even looked at getting a new car since the needs are different with two children who aren't the same age, but I put one of the car seats in my car and then one in the van to see the difference. Yeah... I was sold!  Having those doors open up on their own and open up wide made it 10x easier.  I'd imagine having to do that twice every time we go to the car will make it one of the best  things we've done in a long time.  Ironically I think Mark likes driving it more than I do.  He's surprised me a few times by asking if he can take it to work.  Apparently, his friends at work think it's "cool."  That just goes to show you what stage of life all of our B-ville friends are in.  ;-)  In all honestly cars have come a long way in the past 10 years (both of our other cars are 10+ yrs old).  It is so quiet, even on the freeway, and the technology is amazing!  I'm falling in love!

All in all everything is going great. Improvements are being made to our home, driving situation, jobs, & schedules.  Dr. Dittmeyer continues to say at every single appointment (without coaxing I might add) that I'm the easiest twin pregnancy ever and both Mark and I are ready to play the waiting game for the next 3.5-6 weeks.  Now we just need to settle on a name for our Baby Girl!

This is so exciting!! (The twins, not necessarily the pseudo-SUV.)

welcome to the van clan! we just joined that club a month or so before Andrew was born, and I LOVE my van! I'm glad you're already sold, because honestly it took me awhile :) And you're right, your van choice does look less like a van than an SUV, so if that's what makes you happy then well done! The automatic sliding doors are definitely worth their weight in gold. Oh I'm so excited to see pictures of your little munchkins! And pictures of their newly painted digs??? :)

Woo!
