Labor Day Weekend + Duke Camp Out Weekend

Whew, time to catch up!
Labor day weekend we went to Myrtle Beach with 2 other LDS couples from Duke. All of the boys are now 2nd years. Laura works at Easley with me, and Missy is in our ward, so we see them often but not just for fun very much. We spent a lot of time on the beach, and of course we had to go to Captain George's for the Seafood Buffet. Mark was worried that he wouldn't get to go on the traditional yearly Myrtle Beach trip when I started work in July (he couldn't consider Savannah, Cancun, or The Bahamas as "THE" beach trip), so he was very excited to fit Myrtle into our schedule!

This weekend is the Graduate Student Blue Devil Basketball Camp Out. All of the graduate students that want to try to get basketball tickets have to literally camp on campus for 3 days and 2 nights. People bring tents or rent RVs & moving trucks to provide shelter and privacy as hundreds of students cram into a few parking lots waiting for the check in whistles.

When the whistle is blown it becomes a full on stampede as the students run to the check-in tent. A whistle is blown at random times all through the day and night and every student must check in with in a few minutes. If you miss 2 whistles within the 3 day time span you are disqualified and cannot be put into the raffle. At then end of camp out they put in all the names of students that made the checks and randomly raffle season tickets. So after all that trouble and lack of sleep (last night they blew the whistle 3 times between 12-4 am) there is still no guarantee that you get any tickets at all.

It is only Saturday evening, so Mark is still at the camp out. I have gone to visit both nights, and made a cake for the cookout today. I think it is pretty good.

And I thought spending one night at the Mariott Center to get the "sports passes" was bad! That sounds crazy. Did Mark get the tickets?
