Mark's Trip to NY and Forbes Interview

For those of you that don't know, I've been working with a scientist that has developed a way to produce spider silk commercially using silk worms. Spider silk is a super tough fiber that can be used in bullet-proof vests and a myriad of other applications.

Anyways, Forbes does an online video each week called Breakout about new startups and asked if we'd be interested in being featured. So, two weeks ago, David (the inventor) and I headed up to NYC on a Sunday night to be interviewed on Monday. I got there around 8 and met up with David. We were able to do a little exploring that night and ended up walking right into Times Square.

The next morning we took the subway over to 5th Avenue to the Forbes headquarters. They took us right up to the studio and interviewed us one at a time. The video is only 4 minutes long and for some reason they thought the inventor deserved more time on the video than me, so I only made it on for about the last 30 seconds, and they got my name wrong. Other than that, the video turned out to be pretty good. You can see the video below or by going to http://video.forbes.com/breakout/guide

After we finished, we did a little more sight seeing. First, we went to the World Trade Center sight. Near the WTC was also St. Paul's Chapel which was built in 1766 and is the oldest public building in continuous use in New York City. George Washington use to worship there and even attended on his inauguration day.

After running around the city for a bit, we decided to treat ourselves to the World-Famous Carnegie Deli for lunch. The sandwiches there come with about 2 pounds of meat and are about the size of your head. So, David and I split the Woody Allen sandwich and were still stuffed.

I spent less than 24 hours in New York City and had a nice time. It's seems like a fun place to visit, but not sure if its a city that I'd want to live in, especially with a family. Though, one girl on the subway said that everybody should be required to live in NYC for at least a year. Not sure I agree.

Great job, Mark! You sounded intelligent and looked handsome. In fact, you did not look like a man who would boil silkworms.

I watched the video but I had to look away every time they showed one of those GIGANTIC spiders. gross. Also, I can't decide if that sandwich looks good or not. was it good?

Yes, the sandwich was awesome! But you don't pick it up and eat it like that. They give you more bread, so you take it apart and make smaller sandwiches.
