It's Not Easy Going Green... But We Still Went Somewhere Awesome!

Jill and I woke up last Thursday morning planning on taking a trip to Dublin, Ireland. It was a long weekend because of the 4th and was the only day off that I have during my internship. If Dublin didn’t work out then our backup plans were to go Salt Lake, Raleigh, or Tokyo. When I checked the Dublin flight at 11am it looked fine. When I checked again at 2 there had been a lot of people from other flights bumped onto it. I checked out Salt lake and Raleigh, but they were both totally booked. And, we had missed the Tokyo flight which was at 2:20. Not wanting to waste our free flights by staying in Atlanta all weekend, I started looking for other possible destinations.

Well, after all of our plans, we instead ended up on a short 2-hour flight (first-class again!) down to Nassau in the Bahamas. I know, so sad to only get to go to the Bahamas, huh?

By 9 o’clock that night we were sitting in our room at the Sheraton Beach Resort. Luckily, they even upgraded us to a room that opened up right to the pools. The resort had free water sports gear, and we were able to swim right out to reefs to snorkel and see all sorts of fish and other marine life, even a stingray. On the second day we decided to take a longer ride and took a boat out to a huge corral reef where there were tons of tropical fish and huge schools swimming all around. It was pretty amazing and only about a 5 minute ride from the beach.

Later, after riding a local (very crammed) bus, and going to downtown Nassau to walk around and shop for a bit, we ended up at the local fish fry. All of the locals said we had to go there and eat. Thinking lots of tourists would go, we decided to check it out and ended up being about the only tourists there. Though we felt really out of place, we went into one of the restaurants to experience some of the local Bahamian food. We started off with some Conch fritters -- yes, the thing that lives inside the big conch shells. Then we had some fresh, spicy seafood and of course, rice and peas which came with everything. We both really enjoyed it. Jill thinks it could be our usual spot if we move to Nassau.

The next morning we took the earliest flight and got back to Atlanta at 10. Since Jill accepted a kindergarten teaching job that started this week, we decided to go ahead and pack her up and drive back to Durham. I then got up on Monday morning and took an early flight back to Atlanta. It was a lot of traveling in 24 hours. So, we’re now living apart again until I’m done with my internship in August. But, it was nice having her come visit me for a few weeks!

Looks and sounds wonderful! (Except, of course, for the eating those creatures that live in the conch shells!)

How fun! I hope Danny gets an internship with benefits like those...
Sorry to hear you are alone again. Miss you two!
