Savannah, GA

We had plans to go to Six Flags today. However, at 5 am Mark woke me up and told me it was time to get up. "I am not getting up at 5 o'clock in the morning for Six Flags" I sleepily grumbled and rolled back over pulling the covers up to my chin.
"We're not going to Six Flags today though, we are going to the airport." Mark lovingly interrupted my morning slumber a second time.
"What?"
"Don't you need to get ready?"
"What about Gizmo?"
"We'll only be gone for the day. He'll be fine. It's time to get up. We are leaving in an hour." I guessed he wasn't teasing this time and slowly got out of bed. We went to the airport and Mark checked-in without letting me see the destination. It wasn't until we were at our gate that I found out we were going to Savannah, GA for the day!

Savannah is just a 45 min. flight from Atlanta, so we were in Savannah by 8:15 and well on our way to Tybee Island beach! We were able to play at the almost empty beach until we had had our fill of sand, surf, and shells.

Mark and I drove back toward Savannah and decided to head toward the riverfront which we had heard about just yesterday night on the radio. We found the 1 available parking space on River Street and headed to the shops. Mark told me we needed to be at the restaurant around 11:30, so we walked quickly toward a group of pubs and grills. But... we stopped short and Mark pulled us into a Riverboat store that was full of pirate stuff. Well, if you know me you know that I totally dig the idea of pirates, so I immediately started checking out the merchandise. As we headed out of the store I realized Mark was proving that he is a romantic at heart. He had made advance reservations for a riverboat cruise lunch (how totally cute is that)!

When lunch was over we still had just over an hour to roam before we needed to head back the the airport. We drove through the historic district, and continued to be amazed when we looked at house after house built in the 1800's.

We found something called The Pirate House and thought we should stop in (duh ... because I like pirates, that's why). As we walked up in front of the building we learned that this house is one of the oldest in Savannah and actual pirates used this house way back when in the 1700's! It even has associations with Robert Louis Stevenson's book Treasure Island. How cool is that!

When we got back to the airport we started worrying about poor Gizmo stuck at home for such a long time, because it was looking like we wouldn't be able to get back to Atlanta on the flight we had wanted. There were so many inconvenienced passengers placed on standby that it didn't look like we would be able to get on the flight. We were wrong. We got placed in 1st class! It was a great way to top off an AWESOME day!

So romantic! I'm so jealous of your perks! Oh, and I just read the Mexico post and the police thing is hilarious. Mark is one smart dude and I'm glad you didn't spend your time in Cancun trying to bail him out of jail! :)
