I wasn't able to go all the way up because I forgot to put on a helmet. I did get quite a way up the mountain, and though I am sore today, I loved the experience! It was a personal success! Sunday, April 19, 2009
Seperate Successes
Saturday Mark and Jill each had their own successes while spending the day 2 hours apart!
Mark spent the day competing in the Duke Start up Challenge. They used their spider silk business plan to compete. For those people who don't know anything about Mark's project here is a quick summary of what is going on: Mark is part of a group at Duke's business school that is helping inventors and scientists from around the area start businesses. Mark chose to work on a business with a scientist who can genetically alter silkworms to make spider silk (the stuff they make their webs with). Spider silk is 1/2 as heavy as Kevlar (the stuff in bullet proof vests), 6 times stronger than steel, and tougher than other synthetic fibers. They are working on perfecting the silk so it can be mass produced.
Mark's group was named Consumer Product Track Champions and then named Duke Start up Challenge Grand Prize Winner! Yippee Mark! While I am bragging about my hubby I may as well tell you that last week his team competed in the 5 Ventures Student/Non-profit Competition and was named Track Champions. They have won $50,000 for their business between the two competitions. Good job baby!
Jill's calling in church is Assistant Achievement Day Leader. This month our 2nd activity was to go rock climbing. I have never been and didn't think I would try it. Thankfully, Bro. Molnar persuaded me and got me all hooked up!
