Anyway, over the next two days I will be packing the house (my school stuff is packed now) and getting ready to go on vacation and NC. I can't wait to see all of Mark's family that is out East. I feel like I miss so much not being out there, and finally I will get to be part of the fun family get togethers and learn more of how the Smallwood's do things!

First Year of Teaching is DONE!!!!
Well I did it. I finished my first year as a teacher! It was definitely a year of ups and downs, but looking back it was pretty darn good. I have to say one of my most funny memories was when one of my students, we will call him student "L" looked at me during silent reading time and said "Mrs. Smallwood some kids don't like you, and they think you're mean." I was totally shocked he said that out loud! I turned to him and said something to the effect of "Ya know what L? I don't care. I am not here to be people's friends I am here to teach you, and make sure you can be successful adults. If people like me that's fine, but if not that's fine too." At this point the class was as shocked as I had just been. Haha, looking back I now know exactly who "didn't like me" and that L is such a funny kid. It is much more funny to look back at this experience and others like it, now that the school year is over!
Since I can't post pictures of my students on the internet without parent permission for each child this is the best I can do. For the first parent teacher conference we made 3D self portraits of ourselves. So imagine they are real :-)!

Jill I laughed out loud at this post! HURRAH for the school year being done, and good luck with the move and EVERYTHING! We will miss having you around - even though I didn't take advantage of the close(ish) proximity, I will miss knowing that it would be possible. Take care! I'm excited to read how things go! If you need any help packing or cleaning or anything, just let us know!
And, we can't wait to see you in a couple of weeks!
Gizmo sends his love, and says that he will try to be a very good boy.
The story of L reminded me of the time a woman came up to me in Wal-Mart and said, "You know, you don't look as ugly in person as you do on television." Sometimes, you just have to laugh.
