Day 5 was spent touring the "City of Water". We took a water bus to St. Mark's Square, toured the basilica, and then walked to Rialto Bridge. And no, we didn't take a a ride on a gondola, because they were about $80 euros for a ride and there was a huge group of tourists waiting to get on when we checked them out.
Later, we decided that we wanted to visit the Island of Murano, and the easiest way to get to the water bus was walking straight across the city. As we wound our way through Venice we ended up in the back alleys and neighborhood areas of the city. While I wouldn't want to live in an old tiny apartment with a view of the next building over, they were pretty cool to look at. Murano is famous for its blown glass, and the first thing we did was go to a glass factory to watch the actual process.

I've always wanted to watch glass being blown. You should have bought a piece of Murano.
