"Now Mrs. Smallwood you call him every day"

Mark left for Atlanta this morning at 7:53. He will be there from May 16-August 7th for a Delta Airlines Internship. I, on the other hand hand, have to stay here to finish the school year at Eno. Since I don't really enjoy my job, I can only imagine how much more I will miss Mark than if I did enjoy working.

I told my kids that they had better not push my buttons the last few weeks of school because Mark was going to be gone and wouldn't be able to calm me down in the evenings. When I told my first Language Arts class this one little girl (who can be an angel or devil, we will call her Y) said:

"Mrs. Smallwood you call him every day, and you should call him at different times too, so he doesn't know when to expect a call!"

Cute right! But then she followed it up with:

"You don't want him dating other people, cause you know what happens when you start dating and you are still married. You should leave him before he leaves you Mrs. Smallwood!"

That is about when my eyebrows went up and my jaw dropped down. These kids have experienced so many problems like that, that it seems normal. I told Y that I totally trusted Mark and neither of us would ever do anything like that. He was going to come up and visit for a weekend anyway. Y told me to "be careful and still call, just in case!"

Mark I promise not to date anybody while you are gone :-)

OH JILL!! I am so sorry that you have to be away from your husband for so long! I complain when Casey has to go away for weeks at a time...I should learn to count my blessings.

Case actually left on a business trip today and I had told him the story from your blog, and he told me that he's going to call me at random times to make sure I'm behaving myself. Oh dear. That poor student. I have a few like that.

Well, at least your school is over in 3 weeks...we still have 5 left! Sheesh. Will this year EVER end? Thanks for all your comments on my blog. I really appreciate them.

Oh...and I understand about not liking your job...yeah, I love being a teacher. It's rewarding, but I wish there wasn't the grading part, or the attitude from the students part, or the drain you every day part, or the never-ending planning part...I keep telling Casey that we better have kids before I hate them...lol...

OH MY GOSH!
I love you! This must be hard. Kenny left for 6 weeks for field school and Meggan is alone! So hard! Call me! I will be in Denver this weekend, but other than that i get off work around four thirty...perhaps I will call you when I am making dinner. Love you!

What a sad comment about what students face today.

See you Saturday! The yard sale is going to be intense. Lots of bargaining, lots of angry people, lots of work.
