Day 3 is over...Thank Goodness

Well I started school Monday. Day 3 is over, thankfully! My class is very different than my UT class. I need to rethink my strategies for motivating the students to behave. They are not very self-motivated so I need to come up with more incentives. I think I was the first teacher to send a kid to the office this school year (thank goodness that is over). However, I would like to add, there was nothing I could have done to prevent that specific problem! I am at the point where every day is a new day and a new chance to try it again. I hate the idea that I am only "surviving." But I am sure I will get the hang of things, in this place & culture, with time and experiences to guide me.

Today the school buses came late and while we were trying to load the students our area was put on a Tornado Watch (meaning one had already been spotted). I took a group of 40 kids back to my classroom, and for more than an hour another new teacher and myself tried to keep these 40 children (every grade present) kneeling with their heads down and their hands covering their heads. At least no tornado hit the school! By the time all of the students were gone I was so ready to just go home!

At home things are going much better. I am getting more used to the humidity, though not completely. Gizmo is house broken now. Mark is great. He was a sweetie and had dinner ready for me when I got home yesterday. It was complete with candles and two long stem roses. I have married such a good guy!!! Mark has gotten a church calling already. He is going to be one of the Webelos leaders in our tri-ward cub scout pack. I am very excited for him!

Okay it is late and I had an early morning meeting this morning (yes, it has been a very long day,) so I am going to hit the hay. Hope everyone is doing well!

PS - Grandma Jennings: Thank you for the cards you have sent us. I have put them on my fridge and look at them often :-)

I wish i was able to do that before you had left! RIght now we are learing about special students..pretty exciting! oh and by the way you may hear from me in the years to come on advice about teaching. you seem like a pro already!

Wow sounds like a crazy week so far! I'm sure you'll have those kids trained in no time! I mean, look at what you did with Mark. He's such a good boy now! And Gizmo too! haha. I hope you have a good rest of the week and enjoy Labor Day!
